About UltraSeal Tire Sealant
Ultraseal International was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1969. The original Ultraseal formula was specifically designed to seal tire punctures for the rapidly growing 4x4, dune buggy and off-road recreational vehicle market. The product received overwhelming positive response along with requests to produce additional formulas to meet the needs of conventional automobiles, trucks and equipment.
One such request came from Mickey Thompson, a well-known off-road racecar driver and an old friend of Ron and Liz Aguirre, founders of Ultraseal. Throughout his racing career, tire punctures and flats had caused major problems and cost him a race, on occasion. He encouraged Ron and Liz to expand their market into off-road racing and motocross with its large and faithful following.
In 1970, Ultraseal was contacted by NASA and asked to supply product for use in the Apollo Lunar Rover Vehicle (LRV) program. Several prototype LRVs equipped with pneumatic tires were being tested in the desert to simulate how vehicle systems would react to what scientists expected to find on the moon. The rapid pace of R&D allowed no time for the needless delays being caused by tire punctures. Reports confirmed that once Ultraseal was installed tire punctures were no longer an issue.
The nation faced the first OPEC petroleum crisis in the early 70s. This prompted many in government to rethink how it used fuel and petroleum derivatives such as tires. Agencies including the US Postal Service (USPS) adopted a "Green" policy. Retreading became the order of the day. They knew that instituting a tire retread program would save valuable resources and capital. The quantity of petroleum used to produce a tire is approximately 3 times that of what is required to produce a retread.
Moreover, by reducing air loss caused by porosity and slow leaks, it would be possible to extend tread life and reduce fuel consumption. In December of 1992, the USPS issued a bulletin to use retreads wherever possible and sent the notice to their Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VNF) managers nationwide. In September 1993, USPS Vehicle Maintenance Bulletin V-21-93 mandated retreading.
The bulletin included a new provision that set forth specific standards and requirements for the use of tire sealants in US Postal Service vehicles. Ultraseal International Inc. was the only manufacturer to meet or exceed the standard as an "Approved Tire Sealant" as referenced in the bulletin.
Over the next several years, new Ultraseal formulas were added that were specific to municipal and military applications. As before, Ultraseal proved to be of great benefit to users.

Ultraseal pays for itself by maximizing tire performance. When installed, sealant conditions the tire casings and maintains proper air pressure to protect against tread separation. It also improves fuel mileage and permanently seals leaks resulting in extending the tire life by 25% to 40%.
It also guards against punctures, flats and blowouts, which reduces downtime and improves safety. Inhibits rust and corrosion on steel belts, wheels and rims. Ultraseal wont freeze or evaporate inside tire for all-weather protection. Water-soluble fluid for easy cleanup.
One application lasts for the life of the tire. Always use the specific amount of Ultraseal in high speed tire applications. Balance your tires before installing Ultraseal. It's also available in Bulletproof grade for extreme protection.

Installation Overview Instructions
Installing Ultraseal Tire Sealant is quite easily accomplished using our specially designed high-pressure pumps, valve core removal tools and attachments. In the vast majority of cases, Ultraseal is simply pumped through a tire’s valve after the installer has removed the valve core. Removal is quick and easy using our patented valve core remover tools. An average automobile tire can be treated in less than two minutes, with typical truck and heavy equipment tires taking three to five minutes. Times will vary depending on a vehicle’s wheel configuration and your familiarity with Ultraseal tools and techniques.
Treating mounted tires that have not yet been installed on vehicles can cut installation times by as much as half due to easy access and proximity. This is a common practice in fleet operations. It is not necessary to immediately install treated tires; Ultraseal will lie dormant at the bottom of a tire until rotated. If treated tires are to be stored for an extended period, it is beneficial to spin them on a balancing machine allowing Ultraseal tire sealant to evenly coat the interior. This will reduce porosity and bead leaks, insuring tires retain air pressure and are fully inflated when ready to be placed into service.
Ultraseal Tire Sealant will not cure within an inflated tire regardless of how long it is stored (within the 5-year shelf life).
Tool Selection
There is a full-line of time saving Ultraseal tools and attachments to choose from, each tailored to a specific task and situation. The correct combination is determined by considering the following:
1. Installation environment (maintenance facility, service garage, remote location).
2. Vehicle or equipment type (automobile, medium to large truck, bus, heavy equipment, etc.).
3. Wheel configuration (single or dual).
4. Size and placement of tire valve (standard or large bore, inward or outward facing, etc.).
5. Quantity of tires to be treated.
6. Workflow.
Chucks, Couplers and Valve Core Removal Tools
Our universal chucks, couplers and valve core removal (VCR) tools are designed for use with either manual or air-operated pumps. These tools and attachments quickly and securely connect installation equipment to any standard wheel and valve configuration. Each VCR tool locks on and firmly holds the removed core. The Deluxe VCR tool features an airtight design that enables a core to be removed with little or no air loss.
Pumps
Ultraseal tire sealant installation pumps are supplied in two styles: manual and air-operated.
Manual pumps are generally sold for use with 5-gallon pails. This light and portable combination is well-suited for treating tires wherever vehicles are in operation, such as job sites or other remote locations. It is often more convenient and cost effective than moving vehicles and equipment to facilities for treatment. The combination of a 5-gallon pail and manual pump is a perfect compliment and fit (size-wise) for tire service trucks providing emergency service and repairs. This is invaluable for reducing downtime should a replacement tire not be readily available.
Our air-operated pump is popular in fleet operations that commonly install Ultraseal from 55-gallon drums or 275-gallon totes. This is the obvious choice where an air source is available and high volumes of tires are to be treated. Featuring a conveniently located pneumatic start switch at the outboard end of an extra long hose and settable predetermined counter, this pump increases productivity and reduces installation time.
Each manual or air-operated pump is calibrated and metered to consistently deliver the correct amount of Ultraseal into your tires. Both feature a high-pressure design eliminating the need to reduce tire pressure for product installation, regardless of the size or weight of the vehicle. This is a major time saver. Whichever pump best fits your needs, you can be assured that it has been designed specifically to provide long-term service and ease of use.

Testing Accomplishments
U.S. NAVY TESTS
In 1975, the U.S. Naval Sea Bees performed an extensive field test of Ultraseal. After completion and careful evaluation, Ultraseal was authorized to be installed in Sea Bee construction equipment and miscellaneous vehicles throughout the world.
Flat tires were dramatically reduced in the construction equipment used to build and rebuild roads, bridges, airstrips and other specialized missions. The command was so impressed with the results that they qualified and established Ultraseal as standard issue in the Sea Bee’s deployment packs for all missions. A National Stock Number (NSN) was issued for Ultraseal Tire Life Extender/Sealer and to this day, Ultraseal has maintained its status as a valued vendor supplying all branches of the U.S. Military and General Services Administration.
UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE CERTIFICATION (Click to read).
In 1993, representatives from GSA, EPA and the U.S. Postal System established a Generic Tire Sealant Specification that set the world’s first standard for tire sealants. Safety, compatibility and performance (minimum 20,000 miles) were the basic requirements for a new/unused tire sealant. The specification also required safety and compatibility re-testing of the used tire sealant, upon completion of the 20,000 miles.
With the approval of the U.S. Postal Service, Ultraseal International contracted with the testing facility to have the performance portion of the test extended to 40,000 miles. No other sealant has been able to meet this rigorous performance record.
Ultraseal Tire Life Extender/Sealer is certified and approved for all postal vehicles.
BUDINI TIRE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Budini Tire Management Systems conducted a test with an independent long-haul trucking firm where tires with embedded air pressure monitors were treated with Ultraseal. During the test, periodic air pressure and temperature readings were recorded. After two and a half years and over 100,000 miles, tires were removed and data analyzed. Ultraseal-treated tires maintained air pressure, ran cooler and realized an additional 25% of remaining tread as compared to untreated control tires.
PACIFIC BELL
A one-year case study by Pacific Bell, a large telephone company in Southern California (over 1,000 vehicles), showed that Ultraseal reduced flat tires by over 90%. Ultraseal eliminated a considerable amount of downtime and lost man hours. Plus, eliminated most tire-related road service calls.
Throughout the year, tires maintained air pressure within two P.S.I. of the initial setting. Data analysis estimated substantial fuel savings (mostly due to the constant air pressure maintained by Ultraseal). Documentation indicated that the average tire life was extended well over 20%.
U.S. ARMY TACOM
In an effort to develop a battle survivable tire, the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM) conducted a survivable tire symposium at the Nevada Test Center to evaluate viable new systems and products. As part of the test, an Army HUMMV tire treated with Ultraseal’s Extra Heavy Duty (EHD) grade (combat formula) was pierced by a NATO 7.62 round fired from an assault rifle. The bullet entered and exited through both sidewalls. Ultraseal sealed the wounds instantly with no visible air loss. The vehicle was then driven through a 25-mile course of simulated combat terrain. Upon completion, the tire was examined and determined to have satisfactorily survived the test with minimal air pressure loss.
The photo below shows one of the training programs established at Fort Irwin by Ultraseal International. Over the years, many branches of the U.S. Military have benefited from such training.

SOUTH AFRICAN BUREAU OF STANDARDS
Ultraseal passed extreme flammability and flash point testing performed by the South African Government and was the only sealant approved for use in tires on deep mining equipment.
MOSCOW TIRE RESEARCH INSTITUTE TEST
In 1996, Ultraseal International received certification of acceptance by the Moscow Tire Research Institute (MTRI). The Tire Research Institute tested all foreign and domestic tire sealants including Ultraseal Tire Life Extender/Sealer and concluded that Ultraseal Tire Life Extender was the only product to perform according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Ultraseal is the only tire sealant to receive the MTRI recommendation.
SMITHERS SCIENTIFIC SERVICES
Ultraseal International contracted one of the foremost independent laboratories for testing tires (recognized by tire manufacturers, the U.S. Government and listed as approved by the U.S. Postal Service) to perform a 40,000-mile tire sealant test. The endurance and performance portion of this test doubled the mileage required for certification by the U.S. Postal System.
BAKAERT, LTD., BELGIUM (LEADING INTERNATIONAL STEEL BELT MANUFACTURER)
Performed rust and corrosion testing. The results show that Ultraseal’s rust inhibiting system prevented damage from rust and corrosion to the highly susceptible steel used in the manufacture of steel belted radial tires. The untreated control samples showed corrosion and loss of adhesion between steel belts and rubber.
MAJOR TIRE MANUFACTURERS TESTED ULTRASEAL
A large percentage of major tire manufacturers around the world have independently tested and verified Ultraseal. Tests have shown that Ultraseal is of considerable benefit to their commercial operations. Tire manufacturers do not publicly recommend or endorse third-party tire products and additives. Actual documentation is on file and available upon request.
